Pharmacist consultation

How it works

A 15-minute consultation with a GPhC-registered pharmacist. Supplied under a Patient Group Direction — the same medicine a GP would prescribe.

01
Quick consultation

Where the hair growth is, how long it’s been an issue and whether anything else has changed (periods, weight, skin).

02
Check it’s right for you

Vaniqa is for the face and under the chin only, and isn’t used in pregnancy.

03
Take it home

Apply a thin layer twice a day, at least 8 hours apart. Keep up your usual hair removal — results build over 8 weeks.

Is this service right for you?

  • Women aged 18 and over
  • Unwanted facial hair (face and under the chin)
  • Happy to use it alongside existing hair removal
Not suitable if
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Under 18
  • Broken or irritated skin at the application site
  • Sudden or rapid new hair growth with other symptoms — that needs a GP to check for an underlying cause

The pharmacist checks the full criteria at your consultation. If this service isn’t right for you, we’ll tell you what is — and there’s nothing to pay.

What we supply: Vaniqa (eflornithine 11.5% w/w) cream, 60 g tube. Thin layer twice daily, at least 8 hours apart; don’t wash the area for 4 hours after applying.

Frequently asked

Does it remove the hair?

No — it slows regrowth, so hair removal is needed less often and regrowth is finer. Keep waxing, shaving or threading as normal.

How long until I notice?

Around 8 weeks of twice-daily use. If there’s no improvement after 4 months, it’s unlikely to help and you should stop.

Could there be an underlying cause?

Sometimes — PCOS is the commonest. If your periods are irregular or growth is rapid, we’ll suggest a GP check as well.
