Pharmacist consultation

How it works

A 15-minute consultation with a GPhC-registered pharmacist. Supplied under a Patient Group Direction — the same medicine a GP would prescribe.

01
Private consultation

A few minutes in our consultation room. We’ll ask about your general health, heart, blood pressure and medicines.

02
Blood pressure check

ED can be an early sign of heart or circulation problems, so we check your blood pressure and may suggest you see your GP too.

03
Choose your treatment

Sildenafil works for a few hours; tadalafil for up to 36. We’ll help you pick and explain how to take it.

Is this service right for you?

  • Men aged 18 and over
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection
  • Fit enough for sexual activity (we check this)
Not suitable if
  • Taking nitrates (e.g. GTN spray, isosorbide) or riociguat — a dangerous combination
  • Recent heart attack or stroke, unstable angina, or very low / uncontrolled blood pressure
  • Severe liver or kidney disease
  • Certain eye conditions (e.g. non-arteritic ischaemic optic neuropathy)
  • Some interacting medicines — we check your list

The pharmacist checks the full criteria at your consultation. If this service isn’t right for you, we’ll tell you what is — and there’s nothing to pay.

What we supply: Sildenafil 50 mg or 100 mg tablets, or tadalafil 10 mg or 20 mg tablets, taken before sexual activity — no more than one dose in 24 hours.

Frequently asked

Sildenafil or tadalafil?

Sildenafil is taken about an hour before and lasts around 4 hours. Tadalafil can be taken 30 minutes before and lasts up to 36. Both work the same way; it’s about what suits you.

Will anyone know?

The consultation happens in a private room and your record stays with the pharmacy. We don’t contact your GP unless you ask us to or there’s a safety reason.

Why check blood pressure?

ED and heart disease share causes. A quick check is part of doing this safely, and occasionally it’s the reason someone finds a problem early.
