Premature ejaculation: a treatable problem, not a life sentence

By the Sandwell Pharmacy Group team · Clinically reviewed by Jeetender Singh Sahota, Superintendent Pharmacist (GPhC 2048691) · September 2026 · 3 min read

Premature ejaculation affects up to one in three men at some stage. It’s rarely talked about, which is exactly why so few people know there’s a licensed medicine for it.

Dapoxetine is a short-acting SSRI designed to be taken only when needed, 1–3 hours before sex. It doesn’t need to build up in your system and it’s out again within a day.

It isn’t suitable for everyone: heart conditions, fainting, and a number of medicines (including most antidepressants and tramadol) rule it out. That’s what the pharmacist consultation is for. Behavioural techniques and, where relevant, treating ED alongside it also help.
