How to Switch Pharmacy (and Why Nothing Bad Happens)

People put this off because they assume it is awkward. It is not. You do not need to tell your current pharmacy, you do not need a reason, and nothing is lost.

The one thing that changes

Your GP record holds a nomination — the pharmacy your electronic prescriptions are sent to. Change that and the next prescription arrives somewhere else. That is the whole mechanism.

Three ways to do it

Through the NHS App under prescriptions. By asking your GP surgery. Or by asking us, which is the least work for you.

The timing catch

A prescription already sent to your old pharmacy stays there. If it has been issued, collect that one and the switch applies from the next. Nobody can pull a prescription back once the GP has sent it, and any pharmacy telling you otherwise is guessing.

What you should expect afterwards

Prescriptions ready when promised, a phone that gets answered, and someone who tells you when an item is short rather than letting you find out at the counter. If that is not what you are getting, switch again.
