Hepatitis B is a viral infection of the liver spread through blood and body fluids. Most adults clear it, but some become chronic carriers and face cirrhosis or liver cancer decades later. It’s far more common in much of Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe than in the UK.
Vaccination is recommended for healthcare and care workers, anyone whose work risks blood exposure, travellers to higher-prevalence countries (especially for longer stays or medical treatment abroad), and people with personal risk factors. Babies in the UK get it in the routine 6-in-1 jab since 2017; most adults don’t.
The standard course is three doses over six months. If you need cover quickly — a job start, a trip — the accelerated course gives three doses in two months with a booster at a year. Our pharmacists can supply either privately at any branch.
